Types of Nonverbal Communication
Nonverbal communication has become an important part of our communication. Every day we react to all kinds of face mimics or gestures, without even noticing or observing our change in behavior. Scientists say that body language is as important as the verbal communication. In order to have a successful communication what we say has to be the same with what we express. Sometimes these signs or signals are not so obvious but people have still managed to identify some Types of Nonverbal Communication.

Facial expression is very important in any communication. Facial expression shows angry, sad face, happy , bored etc. Our face expresses things we think of without us noticing , it expresses uncontrollably, that`s why we need to pay attention at the way we say some things. Face expressions are also the same in every culture and country. The gestures are deliberate movements of the body, hands, feet etc. Some of the most known gestures are waving, pointing etc. Every move has a certain meaning, if you can`t read the meaning it`s your fault , the message has been sent. Not so many people can read body language, but some simple things like a handshake, a face mimic that indicates boredom or angry is easy to tell.

Other body language elements are : posture, paralinguistics, proxemics, eye gaze, haptics, appearance etc. Body language and posture is essential when talking to someone. For example staying down with your legs over crossed means you are more in touch with your feminine side. You can casually stay on your chair when talking to your boss or to someone important, staying straight and having a strong posture means that you are confident . Paralinguistics include tone of voice, loudness, pitch etc. The way we talk is very important to others. If we talk too loud people will feel uncomfortable, if we talk like we are whispering it`s also not normal. Our tone of voice should be normal, we shouldn`t talk too fast or too slow. The other Type of Nonverbal Communication, proxemics deal with the „personal” space as some people will call it. When talking to someone keeping a certain distance is of common sense.

non-verbal-communication1Eye gaze is another non verbal communication that includes: looking, blinking, staring etc. The eyes can also express honesty, interess, attraction etc. Communicating through the eyes is very easy, especially when flirting. Haptics means communicating through touching. It`s also essential in understanding non verbal communication, but not so used as other non verbal communication types. The last non verbal communication type is the appearance. We tend to judge and to perceive a person after the appearance. Clothes, weight, face , look, it all makes an impression. Also the colors the person chooses to wear or to apply as make up express a certain mood, or state of mind.

As a conclusion, body language, non verbal communication is 50 % of the entire communication. People that have good communication skills know how to control their posture and face expressions. What goes through your head does not necessarily mean you should show.
