Types of Non Therapeutic Communication
Communication comes naturally for most of us. We all learn from little kids how to talk and how to keep a conversation going. Communication is a two way process in which we send or receive a message. The message has to be understood so that the communication is successful. Communication is a powerful tool, doctor use on patients. Therapists are known for the way they help patients though talking and communicating. There are two types of communication: therapeutic communication and non therapeutic communication. With therapeutic communication the doctor seeks to get a response from the patient that can help the patients state of mind. Whereas non therapeutic communication involves the use of barriers.

Here are some Types of Non Therapeutic Communication: giving reassurance, rejecting, giving approval or disapproval ,agreeing or disagreeing giving advice ,probing, interpreting. Non-therapeutic communication is when you show your lack of interest in what the other person is saying. This is shown through a closed posture, restlessness, and inattentiveness. Non therapeutic communication is the day to day conversation, the casual conversation that can`t follow some rules. It has it`s ups and downs, not everyone listens, not everyone is in the mood to talk and so on. Not everyone can listen and be kind.

We have all experienced this non therapeutic communication. For example we all have gone through the awkward situation when you start talking and you want to tell a very important story and your partner yawns, and doesn`t listen. It`s embarrassing, it makes you feel unimportant and not interesting enough. But , don`t feel sad, it`s normal to encounter these situations. Don`t feel bad or don`t let this get you down. There are all kinds of people out there so, you never know who you are going to bump into. Sometimes even your friends, don`t feel like listening or having a very important conversation. Maybe we have done this at one point.

As a conclusion , non therapeutic communication is the normal communication, the ordinary one we have every day with different types of people. The difference between these two types of communications is that one is especially made to help you and so it doesn`t have any bad sides to it, and this one shows you the naked truth. In the end, when talking to someone, it`s best to pay attention, listen, smile, make the other person feel good, comfortable enough to start talking. If you don`t have the mood to talk with someone, it`s best to not act badly. Just retire slowly from the conversation.
