What Is Communication Theory

My goal here is to show some links between the theories of communication developed throughout the second half of the 20th century, and the Theory of Conditionality on which I worked for ten years.

I do not pretend to deliver a definitive article, however I try to lay some groundwork for a strong position on the subject.

My position is summarized as follows:

# E = RC is the theory uniting all theories known as "new paradigms based on the principle of a world with limited resources.
# The various communication theories and approaches that arise are the foci of the theory of compliance (E = RC)
# The "trend Libre" (including free software, free licenses, business models Libres, including Libroscope cf) is the most important influence for my work study on the key communication.
# The _tendance Libre_ direct result of the Theory of Communication.

This trend has developed so much since 20 years with successes known as GNU / Linux, the GPL, the movement said wider open source, virtual communities are the most influential culture of the Free is particularly slashdot, debian, wikis, creativecommons the ...
# E = RC is the theory of conditionality, which deals with intangibles, including information.
# This formula says in summary that energy is equivalent to the amount of resources are multiplied by the criteria to manage it. It describes the quality of information, and can generate quantitative models adapted to each context.
# E = RC primarily reflecting Libre such "independence of mind" deal with theories of origin ", that E = RC integrates or cancels all claims of the ancient theory of information and communication.

A few days later, I would add another argument along the same lines. Assuming that the tools are justified as they are realized, it is reasonable to accept the theories of communication of the 20th century are of lesser importance to the theories face the 21st century as one of compliance. For time has done its work: the successive developments have led to better define the models in practice. Through the justification of digital tools, models / paradigms have evolved. In 2004 the trend dominates Free naturally, through the mass adoption of its growing operating criteria by governments (countries, regions, associations), companies in the new economy (IBM, SUN) and producers of content Freedom of movement (open source, GNU creative commons refusal of patent life ...).

Then I tried the link between systemic school in Palo Alto, and non-electronic communication. I found mainly the approach called Strategy of the Dolphin, already known and described in 1999 by New Keys. This seems to me to show how the systemic and other steps from the Palo Alto meet with the advent of movements called "the Free".

What Is The Purpose Of Communication

Communication is the used method through which the people are exchanging information, ideas, thoughts, etc. The communication can be made in very numerous methods such as nonverbal – feel or eyes contact, body movements, or paralanguage, oral – thru words or singing, etc.

However, communication is a skill learned during life. Most of the peoples are born with the ability of talking but we must learn how we should speak well and also to learn how communicate effectively. Like I said, we learn during life to speak, to understand the nonverbal and verbal language, we also learn to listen and all those things are skills which we develop in many ways. Most of the time we learn the basic communication skills and this is by observing other people and also we are modeling our personalities, depending on what we see. Through education, at first, we learn directly some of communication skills but by practicing we are having them evaluated.

Communication as an academic domain, relates to every way we communicate, so it is involving a large body of study and knowledge.  The communication domain includes also the nonverbal and verbal messages. Everything about communication is presented and published in handbooks, in electronic publications, and in academic journals.

But why is communication important? The oral communication has been since long ago the main method for communicating with one another. There it is about 75% time spent on a day, communicating in any way. Most of the communication time is spent on listening and speaking while the rest of the time is spent writing or reading. These actions reflect communication skills which brings us to an easier way to success – personal, academic, professional.

The National Communication Association has been collecting and annotating about 100 articles, publications and also commentaries which are highlighting the importance of the communication studies in the contemporary society. The themes provides support about the importance of communication – the whole person development, the improvement of the educational enterprise, being responsible culturally and socially, succeeding in business, career, etc.

But what is the purpose of communication? Well, the purpose of communication is one of two categories – to call to action or to inform. When the people are talking to each other, it is either because they want to share information, feelings, stories, etc, or to ask the other to do something. When the purpose of communication is a call to action, it can be through a direct request or it just can be implied.

For example in your relationship when your significant says “I am hungry”, are they telling you just so for you to know this information or do they want your assistance, they want you to give them something to eat?

In business, the communication of calling to action or informing are ongoing activities which are not clearly separated always because if an employee is sharing a story with you about some situation, do they want you just to know about the problem or do they want your help solving it?

Interpersonal Communication Theories

At an organization level the communication can be seen from two perspectives: the communication between individuals called interpersonal communication and communication between various subdivisions and groups of the organization which is called the organizational communication. These two forms of communication are connected; the interpersonal communication is almost always a part of the organizational communication.

Interpersonal Communication - The relationship between people which takes “birth” in the dialogue of the two interlocutors is called the interpersonal communication. Within the company, this communication is dictated by the job duties and by the group objectives. When an individual transmits an idea, opinion or information to some other individual or to a group of individuals, there is an interpersonal communication.

The interpersonal communication represents that durable relationship in which one person listens to their inner voice and dialogues with it. Thus, the man himself advises, asking himself questions about his needs or his aspirations, facing his own moral conscience. By the way of the expression it can be identified several types of the communication:  oral communication, written and nonverbal.

The oral communication = the spoken transmission of the ideas or words: direct speech, discussion groups, teleconferencing. Depending on the number of the participants, we can make a distinction between the hypostasis of the person to person communication, group or from a person to a large audience, involving rules and call the help of different techniques:

The communication from person to person (interpersonal) – in which are implicated two individuals, it may have a different degree of the formalization.

The communications within the group – there are working groups and teams of which function is based on the structure and on the permanent or temporary runtime.

The communication in front of the public – the employee is often put in that kind of situations where he needs to speak in front of an audience, whether this consists people from the inside or from the outside of the organization .

The most common forms of the oral communication: -  monologue; - conference – classical conference; - exposure; - speech; - sermon; - appellation; -  dialogue; -  interview; -debate. The written communication includes reports, memoranda, letters, notes and other documents based on the written word. It has a greater accuracy than oral communication, having the advantage of keeping the information that might circulate.

The nonverbal communication – it is the transmission of thoughts or ideas without words. If there are used words too, it is transmitted more then just a simple meaning. The expression style, body language and space environment are the main forms of the nonverbal communication. The nonverbal communication has a great impact on the messages sending.

The nonverbal communication is in substance, an element of the psychology behavior. Another component of the same order with an important role in the interpersonal communication is perception. Through the different perceptions, the people select and organize the information in different ways which may or may not reflect the reality. The subconscious process of the neglect or avoidance of the information from the knowledge, that are not that familiar to us, or of the information that we don’t like, is called a selective perception.

What Is Group Communication

Communication is notice, news, connection, relation, report. In the explanatory dictionary for communication we find these synonyms. Although it seems simple, the meaning of communication is more complex. It has many meanings, a variety of purposes and about as many was of expression and manifestation. There is no concrete definition of communication but at least we can say that communication means the international transmission of information data.

Communication is:  a constant challenge to social psychology;activity;  link between people;  meet individual needs. The society continues to exist by transmission, by communication but is fair to say that it exists in the transmission and communication. The people are living in the community by virtue of the things they have in common and the communication is how they get to have things in common. To form a community or a society, people must share the same goals, aspirations, beliefs, knowledge. Communication is the thing what ensure emotional and intellectual provisions, similar ways to respond to the expectations and requirements.

Communication is carried out on three levels: logic; para verbal; nonverbal. Language is the code by which information is transmitted, is the communication tool. The language goes in the first category; it is the communication code, is the connecting link between the information you send, transmitter and the one who receives the information, the receiver. The language determines the communication form. There are three kinds: written language, verbal speech and nonverbal speech.

If we talk about the group we observe that although society where we belong is a group. Group means rules, reputation, goal, team work, etc. Directions are determined by the communication. As long as there is a good communication there it is also maximum efficiency, but if it is missing it can lead to dissension or even worse.

Operation of a larger group is based on the network that connects its various parts and assures consistency. The nuance inserted by Blumer might even surprise: “A network or an institution does not work automatically because of an interior dynamic or of a requirements system: It works because the people at different points do something, and what they do is the result of defining the situation in which are called to act”.

The art of communication is a natural process or a skill that we have got trough birth. We learn to communicate. Therefore we need to study and so we can use our knowledge more effectively. Any communication involves creation and exchange of meanings. These meanings are represented by “signs” and “codes”. It seems that people have a real need to “read” the meanings of all the human actions.

Observing and understanding this process it may make us be more aware about what happens when we communicate. It is another reading of the communication and its significance related to the date of these social processes, such as preserving the identity and cohesion, the vital function exercise of social integration, maintenance and consolidation of common psychological humus.

In none of this major hypothesis, the society (human community) can not exist without communication: not in the acquisition of common experiences (involving dialogue), or in the transmission of cultural dowry, not in building of the agreement on some issues and untying; communication means much more than the exchange and dissemination of information, the communication creates and maintains the society.

Use the communication power
If you ask any couple which is the most important thing that they would like in their relationship, they will all say they want is a better communication. It seems that most times, account is taken of what we discuss; this is the only thing that has the power to destroy or to build a relationship. If you want to bring some improvements to this chapter in your relationship, get some free minutes and read these tips and ideas for a better communication between partners.

1.Communication means power – don’t abuse it
Like any other type of power, the fastest way to ruin, is the abuse. Remember that your words have long – term effects more then you ever imagine; it may happen later that the reason for which you have thrown in argument and which has created problems, not to be remembered but the feelings and words that you used, will not be forgotten. If you feel you want to say something offensive or without any importance, do not say anything. You can try other tactics such as to take a walk, write or clean, anything else to get you out of that state.

2.Communication means power – use it.
If you would have a tool to make you the richest man in the world, not using it would be the most absurd thing possible. This also can be applied to the communication. Take time to show that your love your partner, that she/he is gorgeous and great. Both, women and man love to hear nice words and know how much they are appreciated. If you won’t take time to tell your partner things like that, you will waste the most important tool you can ever use for a better relationship.

3.Tacit communication
Have you ever seen a movie in which the most powerful and sensitive scenes are those where no one speaks? This might happen to you too in the moment that you convince your boyfriend that about your feelings. Spend few minutes each day looking in each other eyes without saying anything; use your other senses to express what you want to communicate. You’ll be surprised how much joy this might bring.

4.Communicate without knowing that you do it
Sometimes you find that some stories from the past are special and extraordinary but at that time you did not believed this. You can create those moments including yourselves in activities; listen to music, play chess, talk about the dreams you have, play on the computer together, cook together, etc. The more time you spend together in various activities, the more there will not be any communication problems between you.

Define What Communication Is

Communication is an important aspect of our lives. Is it hard to imagine a life without communication. Actually, maybe is not even possible to lead a life without communication, and this is probably the reason why even deaf people, speechless people, etc, learn to communicate in any way. In one day, about 70 percent of our time is spent in communicating with others.

All definitions of human communication, regardless of the schools which they belong, have at least the following common elements: communication is the process of transmitting information, idea, opinions from one individual to another or opinions from one group to another group, any activity, from routine daily activities that each of us live every day and until the complex activities help in the organizations, companies, can not be conceived outside the communication.

Like most of the words of a language, the “communicate” verb and noun, both are polysemantic, in other words it has a plurality of meanings. Those in charges of communication domains, they met from the very first beginning, a major difficulty: they do not deal with a well-determined operation, but with a variety of operations, which is hard to say certainty, to what extent resembles.

Encyclopedic Dictionary Vol. I, gives to the “communication” term a very complex definition, covering almost all areas in which this term is used:
- Notice, news, message; bringing to the knowledge some parts of the procedural process, (action, decision, encountered), for the rights exercise and enforcement of obligations arising from these acts, within the limits of some terms, which are flowing as its usual course from the communication date.
-  Presentation in a circle of specialists, of one scientific paper.
-  3 (SOCIOL) “Fundamentally psych-social interaction of people, made in articulated communication way or trough other codes, for the information transmission, obtaining stability or of some individual/group behavior changes.
- Semiotics provides the most general definition of communication. From her point of view, communication is a “sigh system handled by some rules for fixing, processing and transmission of information” ( Birdwhistell, 1974 )

When a word is in fashion how it is today the word “communication” ? When it represents the activities or the events which they are multiply, the meaning tends to broad. Thus, once with the diversification of communication, politicians, enterprises heads, known artists and even any person whose career depends of the opinion that the public have about himself, appeals to the service of the specialists, named appointed advisers in communication domain.

We must understand in this case, trough the images communication transmission, the transmission is made mainly though the media. Of course, this image must be strong and in the same time favorable because otherwise we say that the subject does not have the “crossing pass to the public”, that the “communication failed”; his image is not the one that he wants to offer and rather than to leave it in the wind, is his interest to strengthen it and make it positive.

Anyway, this depends on many factors such as clothing, physical appearance, voice timbre,  elements that often have nothing to do with the real personality of that person. It remains to be established if we talk about communication to the true sense of the word, only to extent in which way this image is wanted (by the person in question or by its agents), or when some evidence say to the person in question, unintentionally “something”.
